Sabine McCallum

Sabine McCallum is a Senior Strategic Advisor and Climate Change Consultant to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) with almost 20 years in her professional career dealing with a broad variety of environmental topics and policy processes, yet with a strong focus on climate change adaptation and solutions to related impacts and risks. Her current work focusses on adaptation practices and policy integration in various mountain regions, including the Carpathians, South Caucasus, East Africa, Central Asia and Western Balkans and collaborating with UNEP´s Vienna Programme Office partners in the Alps, the Andes and Hindu Kush Himalayas.

Before joining UNEP in 2019, Mrs. McCallum has been Director of Sales & International Affairs at the Environment Agency Austria leading, inter alia, the strategic direction of continued internationalization and overseeing the thematic-strategic management of the agency. In this function she has also been dealing with all issues of corporate governance as a Member of the Environment Agency`s Executive Committee, Member of the European Environment Agency (EEA) Management Board for Austria and representing the agency at the EPA (Environment Protection Agencies) Network at Director´s level. She has been Founding and Board Member of the Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA) and was the main responsible for supporting the European Commission in the development of the first EU Adaptation Strategy 2013 under the related service contract. 

Sabine McCallum holds an MSc in Landscape Ecology and Landscape Planning from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna, Austria. Her expertise ranges from integrated assessment covering methodological, socio-economic and biophysical dimensions, policy relevant aspects of climate change adaptation, to policy development, review and implementation and stakeholder involvement/facilitation of events.
